Industrial Canal Rubbish Boom
Project Overview :
Date:  August, 2010
Location:  Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Project Purpose:

To design and fabricate a rubbish and floating debris boom that can withstand the flow rate of the industrial canal in question. The old malfunctioning boom (bottom image) was also removed and the new Assise boom (middle image) installed.

Features Summary :
Boom length:  20.0m long
Boom material: UV Resistant Geomembrane
Float:  Closed Cell PE Foam
Ballast:  8mm Galvanised chain
Connectors:  Heavy Duty Universal connectors
Project Summary :
  • Canals running alongside industrial areas can contain a large volume of contaminants that should be blocked and managed.
  • These canals can generate significant amount of water flow and hence ill designed and fabricated booms will not withstand the forces and malfunction.
  • An Assise boom was successfully designed, manufactured and installed to meet the requirements of both the floating debris and the canal flow rate (top image).
